Sunday Trail Running

Every Sunday morning, members organise trail runs on the South Downs via the Run WhatsApp group . These are social runs — there is no coach leading the session, though coaches may come along. Runs are typically:

  • When: Sunday mornings, ready to run at 08:00
  • Start: Usually Withdean Sports Complex car park
  • Distance: 10–16km or more
  • Duration: 1 hour+
  • Pace: Conversational — roughly 6:00–8:00 /km

Terrain is majority trail across the Downs. Routes vary week to week — check the Run WhatsApp group for details of each Sunday’s plan.

What to Bring

Run leaders handle navigation only. You are responsible for your own safety on the trail:

  • Clothing appropriate for the conditions (it can change fast on the Downs)
  • Enough food and water for the full run — don’t rely on a café stop being open
  • A charged mobile phone
  • A first aid kit (recommended)
  • An emergency foil blanket (recommended)

Routes

Our trail routes all start from Withdean and are free to download from Garmin Connect, with café and water stops noted. Use them on a Sunday with the group or run them in your own time.
